Honda CRV Windshields
The Honda CRV windshield is a laminated glass with a polarizing film on the inner layer that’s designed to block up to 99% of UV rays. This helps protect the dash and other interior components from fading. The laminated glass also reduces the risk of injury during accidents.
How much is a replacement cost?
The replacement price for a front windshield is between $300 and $700, which does not typically include the cost of labor. The costs are generally higher than other cars due to the quality of glass Honda recommends. Having OEM or dealer glass installed will be much higher than an aftermarket glass. We’ll discuss the difference in each of these later in this article. There are additional features that affect the price too. Things such as a heated windshield park area, rain or light sensor, and warning systems like lane departure sensors.

What type of glass is best?
There are several types of auto glass available, and the decision can be confusing. We’ll look at the top three: OEM, Dealer, and Aftermarket. There’s also a generic glass available, but we recommend selecting from the top three for quality and safety reasons.
- OEM stands for Original Equipment Manufacturer, which means you’re getting the exact same windshield from the factory that came on your car.
- Aftermarket glass is made to the same specifications but generally at a lower quality level. It’s also typically much less expensive than an OEM windshield due to the different materials and processes used.
- Dealer glass is usually OEM glass but at a higher price. This is due to the convenience of having it installed by the dealer. Some shops will also add additional features such as heated windshield park areas or rain sensors.
- Generic auto glass is made in an overseas factory that isn’t held to strict quality standards like domestic manufacturers. The materials used and production process may not be the best, which can cause poor durability, inferior performance, and even safety defects.
We recommend OEM or Aftermarket glass over generic. The cost will typically be much less than dealer-installed options, and you’ll have nothing to worry about in terms of quality or safety too!
Windshield chip repair cost
A windshield chip repair price can be as little as $35 for a small, shallow chip that doesn’t go all the way through the glass. The price will vary depending on where you live. Technicians in New York will most likely charge more for a repair than a technician in Louisiana. This is mostly due to the cost of living for each city and state. The highest price I’ve heard quoted was $75 when I was visiting San Jose, California.
Tips to avoid rock chips?
The following tips can help prevent chips and cracks from happening.
- Park in a garage or under an awning.
- Use a car cover if parking on the street.
- Don’t follow other drivers too closely. Keeping at least 2 car lengths between you and the car in front of you is a good rule of thumb.
- Clean the glass and wiper blades regularly. This is mainly for preventing scratches. Small rocks or other items can get stuck under the wiper blade and scratch the glass when they’re turned on.
- Replace old wiper blades. Old wiper blades can become brittle and break off, which will expose the metal wiper arm to the glass. The metal can cause a long half moon-shaped scratch if it’s touching the glass when you turn on the wipers. It’s not the end of the world if this happens. There are some simple steps to remove scratches from the glass as long as they’re too deep.
Windshield protection film
Also called window film, this is a clear thin layer of plastic that’s applied directly to the glass. It acts as an additional barrier against chips and cracks. Think of it as a cell phone protector for your car windshield. Most films block up to 99% of UV rays with a luminous transmittance of 30-50%. I’ve never used protection films but found some great companies online that provide them. ExoShield looks like a winner to me.
Other replacement glass prices
The following prices are ranges quoted for the different sections of glass located on the CRV.
Back glass
This has a huge range in price, which is typically between $200 and $800. The range is mostly based on the location and type of glass.
Door glass
The price for this is somewhere between $250 and $350. Again, the location and quality of glass will play a major role in the price. Adding tint can also increase the amount owed.
Vent or quarter panel glass
This is a small thin piece of glass that’s prone to get damaged often. The cost for this ranges between $150 and $300.
Sunroofs
A sunroof is an expensive option, but if you live in a sunny area, it’s hard to beat the benefits of having one. They’re great for letting fresh air in during the summer and can drastically reduce how hot your car gets inside on hot days.
A little-known fact is the sunroof can break just like any other glass on your car. Glass repair shops typically charge between $200 and $600 to replace it. The labor time is a contributing factor to the price of this. The technician may have to remove the entire car headliner from the roof, which can take a lot longer than replacing a typical window.
Side Mirrors
The average cost for each side mirror is between $150 and $250. Installing them yourself isn’t too difficult and can help you save money. However, hiring a professional isn’t a bad idea if you aren’t comfortable with the installation process.

Bluetooth connectivity with built-in voice recognition is another feature a lot of people are starting to want in their cars which is available in the standard package. Heated windshields, adaptive cruise control, and automatic parking are also available.
LaneWatch Feature
The 2019 and 2020 model years introduced LaneWatchâ„¢ and Road Departure Mitigation. LaneWatchâ„¢ is a camera system located on the side mirror which gives you an inside view of what’s behind your car. This is extremely helpful when merging or changing lanes. It can also alert you if someone is in your blind spot while driving. You can activate it by simply pushing the dedicated button found on your steering wheel.
Road Departure Mitigation detects when your car is drifting into another lane and applies the brakes to steer you back onto the road. It works at speeds up to 30mph but can only be activated when cruise control is active.
Trunk space
The Honda CRV features a spacious trunk that can hold over 34 cubic ft of your belongings. The spare tire is located underneath the floor, which adds more room for you to use. There’s also a 12-volt power outlet in the back for charging mobile devices.
Wipers Blades
Costs continuously seem to rise, and it’s hard to find a decent windshield repair shop that doesn’t charge $100-$150 or more just for wiper blades. However, installing wiper blades on your own isn’t very difficult, and buying them online will help you save a lot of money. The average sizes on the CRV are 14″ and 16″. Check out the following for great prices on CRV wiper blades.
Is there a hybrid or electric version?
The answer is no. The CRV is only available in a hybrid version in Europe. Honda briefly offered the electric model but stopped producing it for unknown reasons. However, many people are speculating they didn’t sell very well, and that’s why there isn’t one available anymore. I think we’ll see a hybrid or electric version come on in the near future, thanks to the increased sales other automakers are experiencing with their versions.
