Additional Chevy Cobalt Services

Below are some examples of additional automotive services other owners of a Chevy Cobalt have requested.

History of the Chevy Cobalt

The Chevy Cobalt was a front-wheel-drive compact car manufactured by General Motors from 2004 to 2010. The Cobalt was intended as an entry-level car and was priced below the Chevrolet Cavalier, which it replaced in GM’s lineup.

As of 2006, this car was only sold as a 4-door sedan. In 2007, General Motors issued a recall of over one million vehicles because some of them had defective ignition switches that could cause

The Chevy Cobalt Engine

Initially, the Cobalt was available with two engine choices, a 2.2 L DOHC four-cylinder or 2.4L SFI DOHC Ecotec engine (replaced in 2007 by an Ecotec 2.2L variable valve timing engine). Both engines were paired with a 5-speed manual transmission.

The 2.2 L engine was not sold in the 2008 model year but returned in the 2009 Cobalt mid-year as a replacement for the previously standard 2.4L Ecotec engine, which had been criticized by some of its owners and automotive reviewers for lackluster performance in the Cobalt. The 2.2 L engine’s official horsepower rating had decreased to 105 horsepower, although in practice, it produces less power than its earlier configuration.

A turbocharged version of the 2.0 L GEMA, with 211 horsepower, was also offered in the 2007 and 2008 Cobalt SS models.

All engines installed in the Cobalt until 2009 contained a timing chain (as opposed to a timing belt found on other GM vehicles), which was designed for 100,000 miles or 10 years of use before replacement.
